JERSEY GARDENS CONTRIBUTES OVER $120,000 in 2010

JERSEY GARDENS CONTRIBUTES OVER $120,000 in 2010

In its continuing efforts to support the community, Jersey Gardens, New Jersey’s largest outlet mall, donated over $120,000 to local nonprofit organizations in 2010.

Garden of Hope recognizes local community organizations in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for their programs.  Just a few of the participating organizations for 2010 included the Newspapers in Education Foundation, American Cancer Society, Susan G Komen for the Cure, March of Dimes, American Red Cross Haiti Relief fund, and the Children’s Specialized Hospital.  Nearly $30,000 in total was donated to these organizations in 2010.

“Jersey Gardens Mall made a significant contribution to furthering education and literacy for NJ school students as a major sponsor of The Star-Ledger and The Times News in Education (NIE) programs.

NIE is a nationwide initiative designed to supplement the classroom learning experience by providing teachers with innovative and versatile teaching resources linked to the information, people and events making news today.  These NIE programs reach more than 27,000 school students across the state each weekday with free access to the newspaper as well as digital word games, videos, puzzles and more, all generously underwritten by Jersey Gardens’ donation of nearly $25,000 over the 2010 school year,” states Fran Eiss, Consumer Marketing Manager for The Star-Ledger.

Through the 12th annual Magical Day of Giving program, participating nonprofits raised over $60,000 for their respective programs.  40 organizations participated by selling tickets to the holiday shopping event.  The event is a turnkey fundraiser for the organizations and allows them to retain 100% of their ticket sales.  Jersey Gardens provides the entertainment, door prizes and store discounts.

Jersey Gardens offers local community groups a unique and easy fundraiser throughout the year.  Nonprofit organizations such as schools, churches and charities sell the famous Jersey Gardens License to Shop discount books and keep 100% of the proceeds. Throughout the year, over 50 local nonprofit organizations received the discount books, generating over $30,000 for their programs.

In addition, Jersey Gardens is an active supporter of New Jersey Blood Services with monthly blood drives at the mall.  Jersey Gardens, with the help of its retailers and shoppers, donated over 700 units of blood in 2010.  “NJ Blood Services is grateful for the continued support of Jersey Gardens and values our partnership in helping to save lives! Our donors in the Elizabeth area love this location and many have become frequent and dedicated donors at this site. The support of the mall management team is a large reason for the success of these drives. They help in all ways possible to get word out to the community about the drive. Their support has helped us help numerous patients and we look forward to a long partnership in helping to save lives,” says Christine Schetelich, NJBS Account Manager.

In the spirit of the holiday season, Jersey Gardens employees and customers joined together to help local families in need this year.  Over 100 toys were collected for the annual City of Elizabeth Citywide Toy Drive.  In addition, the wishes of 75 angels were granted via the Salvation Army Angel Tree.

Jersey Gardens also hosted a very special event called Sensitive Santa.  Families of autistic children were invited to the mall early one Sunday for a quiet, sensory friendly visit with Santa.  All of the families received complimentary photos with Santa.

Jersey Gardens looks forward to continuing its active role in the community in 2011.
