Jersey Gardens Contributes Over $246,000 To Community Groups
In its continuing efforts to support the community, Jersey Gardens, New Jersey’s largest outlet mall, donated over $246,000 to local nonprofit organizations in 2003. As Jersey Gardens prepares to celebrate its fifth anniversary, plans are well underway for even more fundraising programs for local organizations.
Dollars for Scholars is a school fundraising program, now in its fourth year. Local elementary schools compete for a share of the $20,000 prize pool to purchase much-needed supplies for student programs. The 2003 awards will be presented in a ceremony on February 27 in the Center Court of the mall.
Garden of Hope recognizes local health-related organizations in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for their programs. Participating organizations for 2003 included the Broadway House of Newark, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the March of Dimes, and American Cancer Society. Over $ 32,000 was donated to these organizations in 2003. In addition, the organizations were able to use the mall for various fundraisers such as walkathons, fashion shows, and meetings in order to raise additional funds.
Through the 5th annual Magical Night of Giving program, participating nonprofits raised over $127,000 for their respective programs. 71 organizations participated by selling tickets to the holiday shopping event. The event is a turnkey fundraiser for the organizations and allows them to retain 100% of their ticket sales. Jersey Gardens provides the entertainment, door prizes and store discounts.
Finally, Jersey Gardens offers local community groups a unique and easy fundraiser throughout the year. Nonprofit organizations such as schools, churches and charities sell the famous Jersey Gardens coupon books and keep 100% of the proceeds. Throughout the year, 73 local nonprofit organizations sold coupon books, generating close to $67,000 for their programs.
For the third straight year, Jersey Gardens and the Union County Cultural and Heritage Commission celebrated National Arts and Humanities Month in October with Art in the Gardens. “Art in the Gardens provides local artists and performers with the opportunity for exposure to hundreds of thousands of shoppers at the mall,” according to Crystal Stell, Marketing Director. In exchange, the shoppers enjoy top-notch entertainment while visiting the mall.
“Since opening in October of 1999, Jersey Gardens has been at the forefront of community involvement in Central New Jersey,” according to Stell. “We are committed to supporting the community that supports us!”
