Spirit of Girl Scouting Festival
Girl Scouts Celebrate at Jersey Gardens
Elizabeth, NJ. –Join the Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth on Saturday, March 13, 2004, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. to celebrate Girl Scouting in America. In the year 1912, in the month of March, the first Girl Scout troop meeting was held. Now, 92 years later, we continue to remember that day of our founding by celebrating Girl Scout Week. Saturday will be a chance for the over 8,000 girl members to show their spirit for Girl Scouting through song, dance, and art. Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts are invited to participate.
Throughout the event, troops and individual girls will be entertaining the crowd with dance performances, step routines and cheers. One troop will be performing an Irish Step Dance, while another girl will sing a solo. The crowd will also have a chance to peruse the art displays created by girls of all ages. Girl Scouts submitted entries ranging from posters, to sculpture, to 3-D displays for an art contest. Other Girl Scouts entered a writing contest by submitting short stories, poems and other writings, which will be available for the crowd to read.
Girl Scouts who attend the event will get to make a craft, play some games, enjoy the show and walk away with a Spirit Patch, all free of charge. Pre-registration is not required. Jersey Gardens, Commerce Bank and Fleet Bank sponsored the event. In attendance will also be the Newark Bear’s minor league baseball mascot, and Madison Square Garden will be handing out information about their Scout Games and will raffle off tickets for the WNBA NY Liberty Professional Women’s Basketball Team. Jeepers will be giving out free tattoos and there will be a balloon animal artist to round out the event.
All are invited to learn more about Girl Scouting, and to see what the girls in Girl Scouting are all about. Directions to Jersey Gardens are available on their website at www.jerseygardens.com. This event will take place in Center Court on the lower level of the mall.
